From the Victorian terraces of Loughton and Buckhurst Hill to the Georgian village houses of Chigwell, West Essex has a wealth of period brickwork on the edge of Epping Forest. We’ve been repointing properties like these for over 35 years.
The towns along the Central Line into West Essex — Loughton, Buckhurst Hill, Chigwell and Epping — grew rapidly in the Victorian era as London commuters moved out along the new railway, leaving streets of brick terraces and villas on the edge of Epping Forest. Further out, older market towns such as Epping and Waltham Abbey retain Georgian and timber-framed buildings going back centuries.
Loughton’s ‘Little Cornwall’ area — covering the Staples Road, York Hill and Baldwins Hill conservation areas — has a particularly fine collection of Victorian and Arts and Crafts brickwork close to the forest, while Chigwell’s conservation area retains its Georgian village character around the old church and Chigwell School. We work to the correct lime mortar specification across all of these areas.

“Chris is a craftsman and master pointer. He made a really beautiful job of repointing the whole side of our building. I can’t recommend him highly enough.”
