Waltham Forest has some of the best-preserved Victorian terrace housing in East London. The dense streets of Walthamstow, Leyton and Leytonstone were built almost entirely in the last quarter of the 19th century, mostly in yellow London stock brick with lime mortar throughout.
Many of these properties had cement repointing applied in the 1970s and 80s, and the consequences are now becoming visible — cracked bricks, persistent damp, spalled faces. We remove the cement carefully and restore the correct lime specification.
