Garden & parapet walls
Garden walls and parapets are exposed on both sides and on top, so they weather faster than the rest of the house. Leaning, cracked or crumbling walls are something I repair, repoint and rebuild regularly.
Free-standing walls get no protection at all. Rain soaks the top, frost works into the joints, and once the coping fails water runs straight down through the wall. That’s why you see garden walls with crumbling mortar, loose bricks along the top, or a lean that gets worse every winter. Parapet walls have the same problem, but at roof level.
Depending on the condition, a wall might need repointing, a new coping or brick-on-edge capping, sections taken down and rebuilt, or a full rebuild. I match the bricks and the mortar to what’s there, so repairs blend in – and on older walls I use lime mortar so the wall can move and dry out the way it was built to.
Where a wall is leaning or cracked I’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired or whether it’s safer to rebuild. For new walls built to match existing brickwork, see new brickwork, and for cracked walls on the house itself, Helifix crack repairs.

“Chris is a craftsman and master pointer. He made a really beautiful job of repointing the whole side of our building. I can’t recommend him highly enough.”
