How much does repointing cost in London?

Straight answers from a London repointing specialist with over 35 years in the trade. These are my own starting prices for 2026, not national averages.

Typical repointing prices in London

Every building is different, so these are starting prices for labour. You always get a free, itemised written quote after I have looked at the brickwork.

What affects the price

Size and height

How many elevations, how big they are, and how high the work goes.

Access and scaffolding

Scaffold, tower or ladder access, and any awkward spots such as rear extensions, basements or busy streets.

Condition of the old mortar

How deep the joints need raking out, and whether hard cement from past repairs has to be removed by hand.

The joint finish

Flush and weather struck finishes are quicker. Tuck pointing takes far longer.

Brick repairs

Replacing crumbling or spalled bricks, and tinting repairs so they blend in.

Listed and conservation areas

Some buildings need a particular specification of lime mortar and finish.

What’s always in your written quote

  • All labour, with no hidden day-rate charges
  • All materials and protection
  • Scaffolding and access equipment where required
  • Site clean-up and waste clearance

Why the cheapest quote can cost you more

Low quotes often mean cement mortar on soft period brick, joints ground out with an angle grinder that chips the brick edges, or work rushed so it never cures properly. It can look fine for a year or two, then the brick faces start to fail. Doing it once, with the right lime mortar repointing, costs less in the long run.

Repointing cost questions

Repointing the front elevation of a standard Victorian terrace starts from £4,000 for labour. A whole house costs more depending on its size, the number of elevations and whether chimneys are included. I visit and give you a free, itemised written quote before any work starts.
Chimney stack repointing starts from £800 for labour. Flaunching, materials and scaffold access are all set out in your written quote, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
Lime work takes more time and care, so the labour can cost a little more. It protects soft period brick, whereas cement on old brickwork often leads to damaged, spalled bricks that cost far more to put right later.
The guide prices are for labour. Your written quote includes scaffolding and access, materials, protection and clean-up, all listed clearly with no hidden extras.
No. Quotes are free and there is no obligation. I look at the brickwork in person before quoting, because that is the only honest way to price repointing.
